Masuaku is painful to watch at LB ...wasted as well there!!..i would have him on the LW and bring Anderson into the middle behind the Striker with Yarma on the RW..

If you haven't already done so, have a look on YouTube for Sanchez's so-called best bits. God knows why we gave this bloke a two year contract. I can see him being a liability in the PL.

Bournemouth looked like last year decent, but Cardiff looked crap.

As mentioned many times we should have spent the money on two qualty CDM's and the defence. Noble is too slow and too old, Wilshere is a tidy player and a step up if he stays injury free, Obiang seems to want out, let's hope Sanchez can do a job? Rice is mainly a squad player at 19. None of our LB's can defend and the RB's are not much better, looks like we will have to rely on the ageing Zabaleta.
I would play Ogbonna at LB and Zab RB, Diop, The General or Rice at CB and drop Noble for Sanchez. Yarmalenko in for Antonio to start. I would also get Perez on to see what he can do.

I hope you're right, and that this was ll the tough medicine we needed.

A handful of fans were getting carried away with themselves, with the new manager and interesting signings, and all, but I hope the manager and players weren't. If they were, then they should be back to Earth with a solid bump.

Rate Pellegrini but because he’s new, he’s about three steps behind Moyes tactically.

The next game is critical and lose that, relegation talk starts.....

Bournemouth won't be easy. Howe is on a mission to gradually improve his squad season by season and we finished below them the last two years. The diminutive Fraser is very quick and that tosser Wilson will no doubt be up to his tricks on Saturday.

Wolves are not to be taken lightly either. We have tough fixtures until the end of September. We need Pellegrini to sort out the defensive chaos as soon as.

Re: ⚽ Liverpool v West Ham - Official Match Thread
We were hammered by a much better and much quicker side. They had more pace about them throughout the team and we didn't get on the ball sufficiently at any time.

We will need a while for the team to settle, Bournemouth will be interesting and if we get a win there I could (could..) see us getting something at Arsenal as they are in the same boat as us ie re-grouping. Then Wolves will be another good opportunity for a win.

So, put this one down to being well beaten and move on, I'm optimistic.

But - Wilshire & Noble looked very slow indeed and Rice is not a defensive midfield player, certainly not up against a Liverpool who are that quick.

Defensively he'll sort that out, up front we have the firepower if once he gets his balance right, but - in midfield we are potentially lacking once again.

I thought a fit Wilshire was a very good signing, but he needs to be on the pace quickly if we are to improve.

There's no doubting his ability, but I wonder about his pace and movement against quick players.

A crap result, but not a disaster - yet..

As an aside it was quite enjoyable watching Souness get stressed when Alex Scott was trying to school him.

A "cruel first match" for fans. It might turn out to be a tough medicine, which is better to swallow now than a couple of dodgy months down the line. Hoping so, anyway.

Re: ⚽ Liverpool v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I expected Liverpool to be at our throats for most of the game; they've looked sharp and hungry already in pre season. They are just carrying on with the momentum from last season. 3 or 4 goals against us is no huge surprise in this particular match.

I had hoped, though, it might be a 3-2 or 4-3 defeat, if our attack clicked, but it clunked instead. The two or three rare times we managed to combine, we showed we could threaten them, so their defense is still vunerable, bit we didn't really come close to taking advantage of that.

Cruel first match for the new manager and players. I really hope we can give Liverpool something like a match by the time we play them at home.

A good win v Bournemouth would be just the tonic for now. We need confidence to be high and stay there if we want to be looking up rather than down come the second half of the season.

A disappointing result and performance. Let's save the bed wetting and cunting off of the players and manager until we've played a few more games though.

It was a miserable afternoon but it's one match and we won't play a team as good as them every week.

We pretty much got what, I suspect, most of us expected - a good hammering.

I have high hopes for Bournemouth next week.

Re: ⚽ Liverpool v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I think it made us look like we were tactically inept but what do you do when they pass around you like you’re not there? You can’t press for 90 minutes and when you do press they pass round it. The mood they were in today I’m sure City would’ve struggled.
_______

this. exactly . Cant count the number of times they had three or more players around the likes of anderson/wilshire - like a herd of locusts- however this is the kind of game city/dippers/spurs/chelsea are going for and so its the new norm- How do you counteract, well you draw them in and move the ball on fast- either short or long- we did it only a couple of time yesterday- so alot to learn.

What i dont understand is how many times we defended in a 433 rr even 54 very flat defensive " V" and allowed the dippers to switch the ball side to side at will, before they gfinally( always) pinged a long and exqusitie gerrard/alsono equepass into the wide corner pockets for a winger to take his time and progress - we neither challenged on the initial ball, or when the pass had been made pushed our fullbacks out to even contend- this allowed them free reign. Surely the players and management team know how to counter this, dont they?!

Iron2010 and yet he was nowhere to be seen when Robertson delivered the crosses for both of Liverpools opening goals, he's an impact player off the bench for me

It's far too early to judge Pellegrini he will need a season at least and a couple of transfer windows to sort this mess out, as an aside this was Liverpools biggest opening day victory since 1932

So you were happy we sold out central midfield that had bundles of pace and power now your not happy we’ve not got pace and power.....
What did you think of their holding/defensive midfielder Wynaldum yesterday.....doesn’t seem to have much pace or power....seem to get by though
